Respite Care

Respite Care gives parents and guardians time to take care of essential family and personal needs like running errands, exercising, or getting needed rest, so they are prepared to return to their caregiving role.

During a Respite Care appointment, Manos will send a Direct Service Provider (DSP) who is background checked and CPR/First Aid certified and who can assist with engaging activities as well as basic in-home care while the parent or guardian is away.

The DSP will ensure the individual under their care is safe, actively engaged and supported, and that their hygiene and nutritional needs are maintained.

How to Get Started

  1. You request Respite services from your regional center case manager
  2. Your case manager will send a referral to Manos on your behalf
  3. Manos will send you enrollment forms, and is available for assistance
  4. If your Daycare services are Full-Service, a Manos coordinator will match and introduce you to a Direct Service Provider who you will be able to interview and determine if they are a good match.
If your services are EOR, you will be able to refer your own Direct Service Provider who is 18 years or older, CPR certified or able to obtain certification within 30 days of their referral, can pass a criminal background check, and is able to work legally in the U.S. The selected provider completes the hiring process including background check, paperwork, and training
  5. Manos receives a contract from your regional center and you start service with Manos

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to our most commonly asked questions about Respite Care services.

  • What is the difference between Respite Care and Daycare?
    Text

Respite Care is a service that can be used at any time where a Direct Service Provider supports your loved one with a disability while you as the parent/guardian are able to take a break. Respite is often shorter and scheduled as needed.

Daycare is a service where a Direct Service Provider supports your loved one while you are at work. Daycare is regularly scheduled based on your work hours.

  • What is the difference between Employer of Record (EOR) and Full-Service Respite and Daycare?
    Text

EOR Respite and Daycare is when you refer your own Direct Service Provider and manage your own schedule and services. Full-Service Respite and Daycare is when Manos identifies and places your Direct Service Provider and provides support from our coordinators to help manage your services.

  • Do I need to have a set schedule for my services?
    Text

While you do not need a set schedule for Respite Care services, it does improve the quality of services and better helps retain your Direct Service Provider. Daycare services, however, do require a set timeframe based on your work schedule, but can be flexible to accommodate your work hours as they change.

  • What are the steps for enrolling my loved one in the EOR or Full-Service Program at Manos?
    Text

You will need to request services from Manos and have your case manager send over a POS contract to begin the enrollment process.

  • If I want to refer my own worker, what steps need to be taken before they begin?
    Text

If you are referring someone who is interested in working for Manos, they will need to be interviewed by our hiring department, complete and pass a background check, be eligible to work in the United States, and complete the hiring paperwork.
If you are a parent referral in our EOR services, you will need to be referred to Manos, complete and pass a background check, be eligible to work in the United States, and complete the hiring paperwork.

The average hiring time is 1-2 weeks (delays in background checks or completing paperwork may extend this timeline.)

  • What is a POS contract?
    Text

A POS (or Purchase of Service) is a contract issued by the Regional Center Case Manager. This contract authorizes Manos to provide services, says how hours of that service Manos can provide, and sets the dates when that service can be provided. Manos must have a POS contract before we can provide any services.
